The freight and passenger rail equipment that you see in the Museum delivered people and products to the major cities. However, it took roads, trucks and automobiles to deliver the people and products to their final destinations.
The Museum’s road exhibits present a history of transportation ranging from hand and horse drawn vehicles to modern high powered cars and trucks. Vehicles just like those on exhibit transported freight to and from the building that is now home to the Virginia Museum of Transportation. Similarly, passengers traveled in autos like those in our exhibits to the nearby passenger terminal to begin or end railroad journeys.
Make sure that you tour our “other vehicles” to see a unique collection of items that you aren’t likely to see on the road today.
