Truck Transportation Merit Badge Day

Event: Interesting opportunity for all Scouts in the Great Valley District. Spend the day at the Virginia Museum of Transportation with full access to the rail yard and galleries, earn the Truck Transportation merit badge, ride on a historic bus courtesy of the Commonwealth Coach and Trolley Museum to visit the local Old Dominion Freight Line truck terminal, and learn from truck experts; lunch and a Virginia Museum of Transportation patch are included. Space is limited on a first-come-first-served basis to 30 Scouts. The gift shop will be open.
Cost: $30 each includes full VMT access, instruction, lunch, bus ride, terminal tour, and patch.
Registration and Payment: Registration and payment is due by November 9, 2019 it should be submitted by Scout’s parent, guardian, or troop leader. Mail registration to the Blue Ridge Mountains Council office at 2131 Valley View Blvd, Roanoke, VA 24012, or fax to (540) 265-0659, or scan/email to Susan.McKimmy@scouting.org. Limited walk-in registration on the day of the event may be available on a space available basis.
Classes: The Truck Transportation Merit Badge Day is being held at the Virginia Museum of Transportation, 303 Norfolk Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. Scouts are required to check-in beginning 8:00am. Opening ceremonies are at 8:30am, classes are 9:00 to 11:30am and 1:00 to 3:30pm, lunch and activities are from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Scouts are required to check-out beginning at 3:30pm. Full day attendance is required to earn the merit badge.
Merit Badge: Scouts completing all merit badge requirements per http://www.meritbadge.org, as determined by the counselor, will have their Blue Card signed as completed.
Prerequisites and Homework: None.
Scout Responsibilities: Scouts are responsible for registration and payment, for checking-in and checking- out on the day of the event, for bringing a Blue Card signed by their Troop Leader, for wearing a Class A uniform at the event, for bringing a pen and notebook to the event, and for adhering to all elements of the Scout Law during the event.
Adults: Scouters and parents are welcome, but must register and pay the event fee to cover VMT admission and lunch.
