Beltline Clean-up Day In Partnership with the Clean Valley Council and Friends of the Blue Ridge
The Virginia Museum of Transportation and Roanoke Southern, LLC invites you to participate in the Beltline Clean-up Day. Join us on July 10th, 2021, 8 am to 11 am, at Wasena Park for a fun day of removing trash and clearing the train tracks of vegetation on the Beltline Train Track. We will be working on the trackage heading west from Wasena Park. For more information or to sign up please contact Virginia Museum of Transportation at VMT.org. Online Registration is required before July 10th, 2021 and is the Volunteer Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk Agreement (see below). Who Can Help?
Anyone and everyone. Most volunteers should expect to be able to walk along train track pick up litter, and clean vegetation using non-power tools (hand clippers, loppers, rakes). However, there are many jobs that do not require significant physical activity. These include handing out supplies, on-site check-in, organizing water station, and volunteer outreach.
Everyone, regardless of ability or age, to participate in the manner in which they feel most comfortable.
What to Wear:
Clothes that can get dirty
Sturdy shoes (no sandals or flip-flops)
Long pants or high boots to avoid scratches
What to Bring:
Reusable water bottle
Hand tools (if you have them- hand clippers; loppers, rakes, etc)
What will be provided:
Trash Bags, Hand Sanitizer, Antiseptic wipes, bottle of water
1) Volunteers will clean up trash and clear overgrown brush on one section by hand.
2) Volunteers that are certified chainsaw operators will clear trees and thick brush in one section.
3) Volunteers approved for heavy equipment use will use aforementioned equipment for clearing in another area.
