Description
CSS (Confederate States Ship) Roanoke was a Confederate iron towing steamer (tug) formerly called the Raleigh. A tugboat (tug) is a boat that maneuvers vessels by pushing or towing them. It was purchased in Norfolk in 1861 and outfitted with one gun. Roanoke was burned at Richmond on April 4, 1865, upon the evacuation of the city.
The flag being flown on this model is a replica of the Confederate States Navy Ensign in use from 1863-1865.
