Fire proof “Salamander” safe

This large fireproof box safe was used in the Norfolk and Petersburg Railway’s Norfolk depot. It was later moved to the Norfolk Freight office and then to the Norfolk & Western Credit Union, now known as MemberOne Federal Credit Union. Brass panels on the doors illustrate the fireproof qualities of the safe. This safe was made by Roff & Stearns, late Rich & Co., and patented June 3, 1843, in Waters, New York.
