Hot Air Balloon Gondola

The Balloon Works, Inc., in Statesville, North Carolina, built this gondola (also known as a basket) in 1983.  It is a triangular basket made of wicker and has three propane tanks that fueled the burner for flight. A removable instrument panel is incorporated into one corner of the basket. This panel includes an altimeter, a rate-of-climb indicator, and a top-of-envelope temperature indicator. The burner is mounted on removable upright rattan bars. Support ropes cradle the gondola. These ropes were attached to the envelope, the fabric part of the balloon. This gondola was used with the “Skylark” balloon.
