CLASS M2c DESCRIPTION

  • Manufacturer:
    • 50 M2 produced by the Baldwin Locomotive Works
    • 11 M2c produced in the Norfolk & Western Roanoke Shops
  • Production era: 1910 - 1911
  • Freight engine nicknamed the "12 wheeler"
  • Originally used as heavy freight engines, they were soon replaced by more powerful locomotives

  • Manufactured by the N&W Roanoke Shops in 1911
  • Retired and sold for scrap in 1950. It remained hidden and untouched for 59 years
  • Rescued from the scrapyard in 2009, it was one of the "Lost Engines of Roanoke".
  • It currently sits in the Museum's railyard awaiting restoration.
